In his book “Tropical Healing”, Jan Brokof takes us on a journey through the cosmos of his associative and artistic investigations of the differences between the “old” and the “new” world, with which he has been intensively worked since his acquaintance with Brazil. In addition, there are reflections on representations of the stranger at all, on the analogy of capitalism and cannibalism, on formal relations between the depiction of cannibalism from de Bry to the modern Splatter film, and European stereotypes regarding the “tropes” as an ideal and source of danger, like Johannes Schmidt wrote in his text on Jan Brokof’s exhibition “Hans Staden TV” in the Städtische Galerie Dresden 2016.
The artist’s book “Tropical Healing” will be shown for the first time at the exhibition “Tropical Fealing” at the Maurits van de Laar Gallery in Den Haag (Netherlands) from 02.04. Until 30.04.2017.
